This is a vegan, oil/soy/gluten free take on Sweet&Sour chicken. Clearly, not the same thing, but a delicious and fulfilling meal non-the-less. This particular page is the recipe for the orange sauce, see the Breaded Cauliflower page for the “chicken” part of this meal.
Sweet ‘n Savory Orange Sauce
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 c. water (or nut/oat milk for a more "creamier" taste)
- 1/4 c. lemon juice
- 1/3 c. rice vinegar
- 1 orange
- 2 tsp Braggs liquid aminos or salt to taste
- 1 tbsp molasses
- 4 tbsp maple syrup
- 1 tsp fresh ginger
- 1 clove garlic
- 1 tsp orange zest
- 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (add more for more heat)
- 1 1/2 tbsp arrowroot powder or cornstarch
- 3 tbsp oats
Instructions
- Blend all sauce ingredients in a high powered blender until smooth and creamy.
- Pour mixture into a saucepan, and cook on medium-high heat until it thickens, stirring constantly to prevent burning!
- Serve on top of rice or quinoa, with breaded cauliflower or other vegetable assortments (carrots, broccoli, and/or potatoes also go well with this)
- Garnish with green onion, sesame seeds, and/or dried onion
- Serve hot and enjoy!
