This recipe uses a special ingredient, which isn’t required, but highly recommended. Southwest Spice Blend. It does have some salt in it, so if you’re completely salt free, leave this out and add more lime and/or lemon juice and additional spices of your choice.
To give an extra smooth texture and a boost of omega 3, I also add the one oil that’s an exception to my no-oil rule: Flax Seed Oil. If you don’t know the health benefits of this stuff, I highly recommend checking it out. (Do NOT cook with it or use on hot food/liquids)
Humus with a Twist
Ingredients
- 2 cans of garbanzo beans
- 3 tsp lime juice
- 2 tsp Flaxseed oil
- 4-6 tbsp non dairy milk (unsweetened and unflavored!) or leftover bean juice
- 3 medium cloves garlic
- 1 1/2 tsp southwest spice
Instructions
- Drain garbanzo beans. NOTE: If you’re not using a non-dairy milk, save at least one of the cans juice.
- Blend all ingredients in a food processor until smooth and creamy. NOTE: Start with 4 tbsp of your liquid of choice, and then add more until you reach your desired texture. (It’s also a good time to taste test and add other spices and/or lime/lemon juice)
- Spread on everything.
- Enjoy.
